Syrup aka The Purple Drank Banned in California

The ultra trendy (drug) Syrup also referred to as the "Purple Drank" was recently banned by the state of California. The drug is frequently glorified by rappers like Lil Wayne, Drake, and 36 Mafia to say the least.

Recently the term "Purple Drank" went commercial thanks to Drake's hit single "Im On One." All of the attention has turned Cough Syrup into a mainstream drug. Purple Drank is made mostly of DXM which is commonly found in Cough Syrup. The law SB514 went into effect on January 1, 2012. The Law Prohibits the sale of non-persciprtion drugs containing dextromethorphan (DXM) to persons under the age of 18.

It's ironic the California State Law bans the sale of Cough Syrup while the Federal Government sets out to produce more Adderall. Currently, there is a shortage in amphetamine (the key ingredient to both Adderall and Methamphetamines). Adderall is like government prescribed speed, however prescriptions triple (over 18 million Adderall perscriptions in the United States) and the demand for the drug has become incredibly valuable to both the government and pharmaceutical companies. In October 2o11, Obama signed an executive order to ease drug shortages like Adderall. You know what this means? Expect less Purple Drank and more Adderall.

Adderall is becoming very hard to get ahold of right now, even when prescribed! I had to go to three different pharmacies to pick up my prescription because of the shortage and the pharmacist said they might not be selling the generic drug for long so users will have to pay for named brand medication.
