Many would agree that a score can make or break a film. Boyd Tinsely (violinist) of the Dave Matthews Band created his latest film with this in mind. In fact Tinsley created the score before (most of) the script. At the time the script was just a bunch of ideas. The idea came to Boyd four years ago in the middle of the night he knew immediately that his mission was to execute this film. During the pre-production stages of the film, Tinsley shared the score with his team and from there the movie evolved, organically. The story is about a young man named Ben (Ryan Orr) who comes home to bury his estranged father. Directed by Aaron Ferrington "Faces in the Mirror" is a modern day silent film filled with amazing visuals and sounds from some of the most talent musicians in the world.
"Honestly, I have never felt anything like that before in my life, where it was just absolutely certain that this is what I had to do, it wasn't even a choice."
Boyd revealed to us in a phone interview that this is genuinely one of his favorite movies of all time. There's an obvious emotional attachment to this film for both Boyd and his bandmates. In 2008 long time bandmate saxophonist LeRoi Moore passed away. This project was the perfect answer to keep DMB positive and pay tribute to their bandmate and brother LeRoi.
Boyd Tinsley produced and co-stars in the film "Faces in the Mirror." Dave Matthews also makes a cameo in the film.
Special thanks to Boyd Tinsley for taking the time to talk to us about the film. He was so passionate during our conversation and turned out to be a gentle soul. As enthused as he seemed about the project its fair to say that this won't be Boyd Tinsley's last movie.
